The size of these spots was close to the theoretical limit of resolution for light microscopy (~180 nm). Some of these spots appeared to lie within and/or just outside of the boundaries of cholinergic synaptic vesicle clusters, as visualized by costaining with an antibody to the synaptic vesicle ACh transporter UNC-17. A triple-staining experiment withanti-UNC-13L suggests that PDE-4 does not exclusively associate with cholinergic synapses, but is also found at or near noncholinergic synapses. |
