such-2 is an uncloned gene, whose allele such-2(h1992) suppresses the long-term sterility (over two to three generations) of homozygous mdf-1(gk2) mutations; in mdf-1(gk2) such-2(h1992) mutants, the onset of anaphase is delayed in both germline and early embryonic mitosis, and X chromosome missegregation is decreased; such-2 may encode a component or a protein partner of the anaphase promoting complex/cyclosome (APC/C), since other suppressors of this type (e.g., emb-30, fzy-1, and such-1) encode APC/C components.
