Expression Pattern :

Pattern  SEL-1 appeared in all tissues except the pharynx at L1 larva through adult. SEL-1 detected in all larval stages and adult tissues, except pharynx. SEL-1 staining located in intra-cellular vesicles (SEL-1 staining present in P5.p and P7.p (and other vulval precursor cells) at the time they are deciding between alternative cell fates). SEL-1 could be detected in all larval and adult tissues, but not in the pharynx. In adults strong GFP fluorescence is seen at the apical and basal surfaces of the intestinal membranes, and in pseudocoelomic spaces. GFP is also localized in empty uterine spaces around unlaid embryos. Staining observed in a pair coelomocytes. Primary Identifier  Expr549
Remark  The GFP construct rescues a sel-1 mutant. Subcellular Localization  intracellular vesicles.

Definition Name Synonym Primary Identifier
A chain of very large cuboidal cells forming a wide central lumen in which food arrives from the posterior pharynx, is digested, and from which waste products proceed to the rectum. Intestinal rings form in groups of two and four cells surrounding the common lumen; thus the epithelium is only one cell deep at any point, with neighboring cells firmly secured to their neighbors by apical adherens junctions. These cells have very large nuclei and many large vacuoles, yolk granules, and other inclusions; the latter increase in number and electron density as the animal ages. intestine gut WBbt:0005772
