Expression Pattern :

Pattern  the SMA-5::EGFP fluorescence was exclusively detected in the cytoplasm of intestinal cells in strain BJ269. This was somewhat in contrast to the previous observations of Watanabe et al. (Watanabe et al., 2005), who found expression of two sma-5 reporter constructs containing 1.6 kb of the upstream region and almost none or all of the gene-coding region not only in the intestine but also in the excretory cell and to some degree in the hypodermis. In addition, our observations were in disagreement with the distribution of another reporter containing 4.9 kb of the region upstream of exon 1 described by the same group whose expression was noted only in the pharynx and hypodermis. Definition Name Synonym Primary Identifier
A chain of very large cuboidal cells forming a wide central lumen in which food arrives from the posterior pharynx, is digested, and from which waste products proceed to the rectum. Intestinal rings form in groups of two and four cells surrounding the common lumen; thus the epithelium is only one cell deep at any point, with neighboring cells firmly secured to their neighbors by apical adherens junctions. These cells have very large nuclei and many large vacuoles, yolk granules, and other inclusions; the latter increase in number and electron density as the animal ages. intestine gut WBbt:0005772
