Expression Pattern :

Pattern  mig-13::GFP was first seen during embryogenesis in pharyngeal, hypodermal, and neuronal precursors located in the anterior body region. At hatching, mig-13::GFP was expressed in the pharyngeal-intestinal valve cells, as well as in the cell bodies and axons of a number of neurons in the retrovesicular ganglion and the ventral cord. Expression appeared to be restricted to cells in the anterior half of the body with the exception of DA9, which is located in the preanal ganglion. In later larval and adult stages, the same cells continued to express mig-13::GFP, although additional staining was seen in the postembryonically derived ventral cord neurons located in the anterior half of the animal. Significantly, no expression was seen in the migrating QR descendants. Primary Identifier  Expr1335
Subcellular Localization  MIG-13 appeared to be localized to the plasma membrane of all mig-13 expressing cells.

A group of six equivalent cells forms a tightly constructed `valve` that links the posterior bulb of the pharynx to the anterior four cells of the intestine. These six cells comprise a small epithelial channel with a cuticular lining in continuity with the pharyngeal cuticle and link the lumen of the pharynx to the large lumen of the anterior intestine. pharyngeal-intestinal valve cardia WBbt:0005767
