ztf-6::gfp expression is first observed in late embryogenesis (threefold stage). In early larval stages, the ztf-6::gfp-expressing cells include head hypodermal cells, head muscle cells, neurons, and ectodermal blast cells along the body (all P and all V cells) and in the tail. Starting in the L2 stage, additional neurons in P cell-derived ventral cord motor neurons express ztf-6::gfp. Because of the postdeirid loss phenotype of ztf-6 mutants, we examined the postdeirid lineage in more detail. We observe ztf-6 expression in the V5 cell of freshly hatched L1 animals. Upon division of the V5 cell into a posterior and anterior daughter, we observe expression in both the anterior and posterior daughters of the V5 cell. The descendent of the posterior V5.p daughter, V5.pa (the founder of the postdeirid lineage), and V5.pp also continue to express ztf-6::gfp. Within the V5.pa lineage, expression of ztf-6::gfp is retained in the blast cells that generate the glial cells and the PDE and PVD neurons (v5.paaa, V5.papa, V5.paap, V5.papp). No expression is detected at later stages in this lineage. |

A G-protein coupled receptor homologue, this gene has a restricted expression pattern in ADEsoL/R and PDEsoL/R in late larval stages. These are the socket cells of the deirid and post-deirid sensilla respectively, specialised nerve-accessory cells which form a toroid around the sensory process of the sensillum and act as an interface between it and the hypodermis The nuclei of ADEsoL/R and PDEsoL/R stain from L2(birth?) to adult. |

Expression in the alimentary canal: Strong and consistent expression in M2, rectal epithelial cells. Weak or rare expression in anterior arcades, posterior arcades. Expression in the nervous system: Amsh, CEPso, ILso, OLso, PDEso, AVH (early larva), AVJ (early larva), AVK, CAN, IL1 (early larva), PDE, PVD, SIB (early larva), URB, VAn, VBn, M2. Expression in the reproductive system: In adult stage, expressed in vulva, spermatheca, sperm(spermatocytes, spermatids). In developing larva stage, expressed in vulva. inx-12 expressionstarts in seam precursors around 1.5-fold stage, followed by expression in arcade cells by 2-fold and head neurons by 3-fold stage. inx-12 is expressed in the hypodermal cells of the animal in postembryonic stages. |

The same pattern of expression was also noted when a genomic fragment spanning nucleotides I-1630 was used to drive the GFP reporter. |

Both hermaphrodites and males expressed GFP in a group of cells around the pharyngeal corpus, which represented either the sheath or socket cells (PDEso) in the tail, as defined by their openings, position and morphology. GFP expression in these sensory support cells was detected soon after their birth and was maintained into adulthood. A GFP signal was detected in all the ray structure cells of the male tail, but not in the hypodermal tissue. Expression in nine pairs of structure cells began just prior to the ray retraction period, peaked during the retraction and declined upon completion of ray extension. |

Promoter activity was first detected at late gastrulation stage in cells that include descendants of the AB and E lineages. Expression continues through embryonic elongation in some of these cells. About 450 to 520 min after first cleavage, expression was observed in a subset of cells in the head, including one ventral muscle, and in all dorsal body wall muscles. Between 520 min and hatching, green fluorescent protein (GFP) expression was detected in the DA and DB classes of motorneurons, excluding DA8 and DA9. This pattern of expression persisted into the adult stage. In addition, expression was detected in a subset of cells in the head and in pharyngeal neurons and muscle. Of these, only interneuron I4 and muscle m8 were unambiguously identified. In late larval stages, expression was detected in the spermatheca, seam cells, CAN, PDE socket, and four cells that encircle the vulva. |
