A less frequently observed components is of nuclei in the tail which is most likely hypodermis. A less frequently seen component is in vulC and vulD of L4 larvae and adult worms. Expression seen in unidentified groups of cells in elongating embryos. The most common and obvious component of this expression pattern is the strong staining in the terminal bulb of the pharynx (m6 and m7). Also fainter expression in the m2 nuclei of the procorpus. In animals raised under normoxia, the nhr- 57::gfp reporter was weakly expressed in several somatic cells including the intestinal cells, but not in the VPCs before VI. After the first round of VPC divisions in mid-L3 larvae, nhr-57::gfp expression became visible in the descendants of the uninduced distal VPCs but remained undetectable in the descendants of the induced proximal VPCs until they had completed their last round of division and terminally differentiated. |

Expression is seen from 3-fold embryo stage, through all larval stages and through to adulthood. Punctate cytoplasmic and nuclear expression is quite extensive and is seen throughout the worm in bodywall muscle and hypodermis. More specifically the vulC cells of the vulva frequently show strong expression, as do cells of the defecation muscle system. |

Several components comprise this expression pattern. In L2/3 larvae hypodermal staining is seen predominantly in the body with occasional faint expression in the head. In adults, expression is seen in the vulval labia (vulC cells). Staining is usually nuclear localised but diffuse staining is sometimes seen throughout the vulC cells. Staining in the tail is seen from larval to adult stages. A cell (or cells) subventral to the rectum (possibly rectal gland cells) stain. Staining in a number of tail spike hypodermal nuclei is also observed. |

This construct gives expression in the vulval labia, in the vulC cells. There is some mosaicism as sometimes only the anterior or posterior vulC cell gives expression. Staining is rather weak and only infrequently observed. Only in strain UL553 was this expression consistently observed. In UL468 expression was only observed intermittently, and in UL554 not at all. |

Expression is confined to the vulC cells (P7.papr, P7.papl, P5.ppar, P5.ppal) of the vulval hypodermis in L4 and adult worms. |
