Phenotype Remark  after mdf-1 RNAi treatment there was an increase in germ cell proliferation after starvation. Remark  The rrf-1 gene encodes an RNA-directed RNA polymerase (RdRP) homologue. Somatic cells (but not germ cells) carrying the homozygous rrf-1(pk1417) allele are resistant to RNAi treatment. Because there was an increase in germ cell proliferation after starvation in this experiment authors posit that the mdf-1 gene cell autonomously functions in starvation-induced cell cycle arrest of germ cell precursors.
