Gene :

WormBase Gene ID  ? WBGene00002269 Gene Name  lec-6
Sequence Name  ? Y55B1AR.1 Brief Description  lec-6 encodes a 'proto' type galectin (beta-galactosyl-binding lectin) containing a single carbohydrate recognition domain; by homology, LEC-6 may play roles in cell adhesion and aggregation, proliferation, or programmed cell death, but as loss of lec-6 activity via large-scale RNAi screens does not result in obvious abnormalities, the precise role of LEC-6 in C. elegans development and/or behavior is not yet known; in vitro, LEC-6 can interact with several types of blood group precursor oligosaccharides and gangliosides.
Organism  Caenorhabditis elegans Automated Description  Predicted to enable carbohydrate binding activity and galactoside binding activity. Located in cytoplasm. Expressed in intestine and pharynx. Is an ortholog of human LGALS7 (galectin 7) and LGALS7B (galectin 7B).
Biotype  SO:0001217 Genetic Position  III :-26.58 ±0.056803
Length (nt)  ? 857

oocyte proteins identified by two or more unique peptides during proteomics study. In the pooled data set, 1453 C. elegans proteins were identified with a probability >= 0.9 according to ProteinProphet, of which 1165 proteins were identified by more than one unique peptide.   Transcripts of coding genes that showed significantly decreased expression in muscle. DESeq2 (version 1.24.0). Transcripts with a false-discovery rate adjusted p-value less than 0.05 were considered significantly differentially expressed. WBPaper00062325:muscle_depleted_coding-RNA
Transcripts expressed in neuronal cells, by analyzingfluorescence-activated cell sorted (FACS) neurons. DESeq. False discovry rate (FDR) < 0.1. WBPaper00048988:neuron_expressed
Genes that showed expression levels higher than the corresponding reference sample (embryonic 24hr reference). A Mann-Whitney U test with an empirical background model and FDR correction for multiple testing was used to detect expressed transcripts (Benjamini and Hochberg 1995). Genes and TARs with an FDR <= 0.05 were reported as expressed above background. Authors detected differentially expressed transcripts using a method based on linear models. Genes and TARs were called differentially expressed if the FDR was <= 0.05 and the fold change (FC) >= 2.0. To more strictly correct for potential false-positives resulting from multiple sample comparisons, authors divided individual FDR estimates by the number of samplesor sample comparisons, respectively. This resulted in an adjusted FDR of 1.3 * 0.0001 for expression above background and of 7.4 * 0.0001 for differential expression. Authors called genes selectively enriched in a given tissue if they met the following requirements: (1) enriched expression in a given tissue (FDR <= 0.05 and FC >= 2.0), (2) fold change versus reference among the upper 40% of the positive FC range observed for this gene across all tissues, and (3) fold-change entropy among the lower 40% of the distribution observed for all genes. Picture: Figure 6A.   Expr9172 Transgenic worms carrying LEC-6::GFP show GFP expression within the intestinal cells. LEC-6::GFP also expresses in the grinder of the pharynx. Closer examination reveals that LEC-6::GFP signal is mostly diffuse in the cytoplasm.
Picture: Figure 6D.   Expr9174 When used to stain wild type animals, the antibody recognize signals in the intestine. These immunochemical signals are absent in mutant strains carrying lec-6 deletion, supporting the signals observed in wild type worms are specific. Upon closer examination, the anti-LEC-6 antibody recognizes clustered punctate structures in the cytoplasm of the intestinal cells.
