In C. elegans, the PSR-1 protein appears to be present at an extremely low level, as it cannot be detected by more than 20 different monoclonal and polyclonal antibodies raised against PSR-1 that show high affinity to recombinant PSR-1. Using a single-copy psr-1 transgene tagged with an ultrasensitive 3xFlag epitope, PSR-1 expression was detected in C. elegans by immunoblotting, but was not observed in living cells by immunostaining. Importantly, PSR-1 was concentrated on the surface of some apoptotic germ cells and formed a punctate circle on apoptotic cells, similar to that formed by the CED-1 phagocyte receptor. |
