Expression Pattern :

Pattern  Promoter activity of spp-9 was observed in the entire intestine of animals, strongly in the anterior and posterior ends. spp-9 transgene expression in the intestine was visible at all developmental stages starting from the first larval stage up to adulthood. We also observed spp-9 expression in six head neurons. We confirmed the expression of spp-9 in the AWB and AWC neurons by showing colocalization with a fluorescent marker, odr-1::RFP (oyIs44), that is specifically expressed in the two AWB and two AWC sensory neurons. The spp-9 reporter was also visible in a third amphid pair. VisCello for Visualization of Single Cell Data expression data suggests spp-9 is expressed in the ASH neurons, which is consistent with the observed position of this third neuron pair. A chain of very large cuboidal cells forming a wide central lumen in which food arrives from the posterior pharynx, is digested, and from which waste products proceed to the rectum. Intestinal rings form in groups of two and four cells surrounding the common lumen; thus the epithelium is only one cell deep at any point, with neighboring cells firmly secured to their neighbors by apical adherens junctions. These cells have very large nuclei and many large vacuoles, yolk granules, and other inclusions; the latter increase in number and electron density as the animal ages. intestine gut WBbt:0005772
