WormBase Gene ID  ? WBGene00003787 Gene Name  npp-1
Sequence Name  ? K07F5.13 Brief Description  npp-1 encodes a nucleoporin that is most closely related to the vertebrate nucleoporin Nup54 and Saccharomyces cerevisiae nucleoporin Nup57p; during embryonic development, npp-1 activity is essential for some aspects of nuclear structure and function, as well as for proper mitotic spindle orientation, asymmetric cell division, cell fate specification, and mitotic cell cycle timing; npp-1 is also required for normal oogenesis and levels of fertility and for effective RNA interference (RNAi); an NPP-1::GFP reporter is expressed at all stages of development and localizes to the nuclear envelope; the NPP-1C isoform interacts with itself and with nucleoporins NPP-3, NPP-4, NPP-11, and NPP-13B in yeast two-hybrid assays; NPP-1 also binds bovine calmodulin in vitro in a calcium-dependent manner.
Organism  Caenorhabditis elegans Automated Description  Enables calmodulin binding activity. Involved in several processes, including establishment of mitotic spindle orientation; nuclear pore organization; and positive regulation of mitotic cell cycle, embryonic. Located in nuclear envelope. Expressed in several structures, including hypodermis. Human ortholog(s) of this gene implicated in dystonia. Is an ortholog of human NUP54 (nucleoporin 54).
Biotype  SO:0001217 Genetic Position  IV :4.43529 ±0.000395
Length (nt)  ? 3632

Maternal class (M): genes that are called present in at least one of the three PC6 replicates. A modified Welch F statistic was used for ANOVA. For each gene, regressed error estimates were substituted for observed error estimates. The substitution is justified by the lack of consistency among the most and least variable genes at each time point. Regressed error estimates were abundance-dependent pooled error estimates that represented a median error estimate from a window of genes of similar abundance to the gene of interest. A randomization test was used to compute the probability Pg of the observed F statistic for gene g under the null hypothesis that developmental time had no effect on expression. P-values were not corrected for multiple testing. [cgc5767]:expression_class_M
Genes with expression level regulated by genotype (N2 vs CB4856) at Late reproduction stage (96 hours at 24 centigrade).   Strictly maternal class (SM): genes that are the subset of maternal genes that are not also classified as embryonic. Other strain-- UL712   Expr139 Expression is seen from precomma stage embryos to young larval stages. In young embryos expression is generally weak and diffuse. In older embryos and larvae expression is nuclear localised in hypodermis. Expression in the strains generated is intermittent and sporadic. In young embryos expression is generally weak and diffuse. Five stable lines were produced, all of which show identical expression patterns.   Expr3978 Expressed in most, if not all cells. NPP-1::GFP is localized to the nuclear envelope of most, if not all cells of transgenic animals. This is consistent with the expected localization of a nucleoporin. There is no evidence for developmental regulation of npp-1 because all cells in all stages of development express NPP-1::GFP. Signal is detected at pronuclear formation and is found on the nuclear envelope of both the maternal and paternal pronucleus. Signal disappears at pronuclear breakdown, but returns to the nuclear envelope as the envelope reforms during telophase. There is also some punctate cytoplasmic GFP signal that can be observed moving in the cytoplasm. These punctuate cytoplasmic signals may be an artifact of expressing GFP because similar patterns are seen with negative control constructs. There are also frequently punctate GFP signals inside the nucleus which are not apparent in the GFP-only control lines.
