Expression Pattern :

Pattern  Quite extensive, nuclear-localized GFP was observed from embryo to adulthood. Many cells expressed GFP in the head: in the pharynx, pharyngeal-intestinal valve and head muscle. Many cells in the tail also expressed GFP: most looked like neurons but other tissues might be involved as well. Sometimes GFP was organized in a pair of long, ovoid shapes in the tail. Extremely low levels of GFP were also observed in hypodermal or muscle cell nuclei along the body, including the ventral nerve cord. GFP expression in the head, apart from that in posterior pharyngeal bulb, was generally weaker than expression elsewhere. In L4s and young adults, many nuclei around the vulva showed GFP expression, and at higher levels than other expression pattern components. Occasionally GFP expression was also observed in the developing gonad, possibly the spermathecae. Primary Identifier  Expr9741

an accordion-like tube that contains sperm and is the site of oocyte fertilization. spermatheca   WBbt:0005319
A group of six equivalent cells forms a tightly constructed `valve` that links the posterior bulb of the pharynx to the anterior four cells of the intestine. These six cells comprise a small epithelial channel with a cuticular lining in continuity with the pharyngeal cuticle and link the lumen of the pharynx to the large lumen of the anterior intestine. pharyngeal-intestinal valve cardia WBbt:0005767

the feeding organ, a neuro-muscular pump in the head of the animal, used to ingest food, bacteria suspended in liquid, filter them out, grind them up and transport posteriorly into the instestine. pharynx esophagus WBbt:0003681
body wall muscle in the head, including first eight cells of each muscle quadrants which are innervated by nerve ring neurons. head muscle head body wall muscle WBbt:0006761
