Picture: Figure 3, Figure 4 Subcellular Localization  In neurons, this reporter gene showed a striking fluorescence pattern, consisting of a string of dots running along the axon, as shown on a midbody lateral neuron SDQR. These structures might be attachment points for the axons to the extracellular matrix beneath them. Dots were also detected in neuron cell bodies, but it is unclear whether this corresponds to the natural localization of the protein or a transgene artifact. In striated muscles the dyc-1:gfpX transgene displayed a repetitive fluorescent pattern reminiscent of the sarcomeric pattern. To identify which component of the sarcomere was labeled, authors stained dyc-1:gfpX expressing animals with the MH24 antibody, which recognizes the DEB-1/vinculin protein, one of the main components of dense bodies. The DYC-1-GFPX protein is located at the edges of MH24 labeled dense bodies.
