Gene :

WormBase Gene ID  ? WBGene00006706 Gene Name  ubc-9
Sequence Name  ? F29B9.6 Brief Description  ubc-9 encodes an E2 ubiquitin-conjugating enzyme orthologous to Saccharomyces cerevisiae Ubc9p, which mediates the covalent attachment of the small ubiquitin-related modifier (SUMO) to various substrates including Ran-GAP1 and p53; UBC-9 activity is required for several developmental processes including embryogenesis, larval development, vulval development, posterior morphogenesis, and the DNA damage response (both DNA repair and DNA damage checkpoint function); UBC-9 interacts with LIN-1, an ETS-domain-containing transcription factor that negatively regulates vulval development, and with RAD-51, the C. elegans RecA homolog that is required for DNA repair.
Organism  Caenorhabditis elegans Automated Description  Enables RNA polymerase II-specific DNA-binding transcription factor binding activity; SAM domain binding activity; and SUMO conjugating enzyme activity. Involved in several processes, including chordate pharyngeal muscle development; negative regulation of transcription by RNA polymerase II; and protein sumoylation. Predicted to be located in nucleus. Expressed in body wall musculature; coelomocyte; pharynx; tail; and in male. Human ortholog(s) of this gene implicated in dilated cardiomyopathy; ovarian cancer; and urinary bladder cancer. Is an ortholog of human UBE2I (ubiquitin conjugating enzyme E2 I).
Biotype  SO:0001217 Genetic Position  IV :0.518478 ±0.015777
Length (nt)  ? 1404

Maternal class (M): genes that are called present in at least one of the three PC6 replicates. A modified Welch F statistic was used for ANOVA. For each gene, regressed error estimates were substituted for observed error estimates. The substitution is justified by the lack of consistency among the most and least variable genes at each time point. Regressed error estimates were abundance-dependent pooled error estimates that represented a median error estimate from a window of genes of similar abundance to the gene of interest. A randomization test was used to compute the probability Pg of the observed F statistic for gene g under the null hypothesis that developmental time had no effect on expression. P-values were not corrected for multiple testing. [cgc5767]:expression_class_M

Strictly maternal class (SM): genes that are the subset of maternal genes that are not also classified as embryonic. A modified Welch F statistic was used for ANOVA. For each gene, regressed error estimates were substituted for observed error estimates. The substitution is justified by the lack of consistency among the most and least variable genes at each time point. 7 Expression Patterns

Remark Reporter Gene Primary Identifier Pattern Subcellular Localization
Expr2035855 Single cell embryonic expression. Only cell types with an expression fraction of greater 0.2 of the maximum expressed fraction are labeled (Full data can be downloaded from http://caltech.wormbase.org/pub/wormbase/datasets-published/packer2019/). The colors represent the broad cell class to which the cell type has been assigned. The size of the point is proportional to the log2 of the numbers of cells in the dataset of that cell type. Interactive visualizations are available as a web app (https://cello.shinyapps.io/celegans/) and can also be installed as an R package (https://github.com/qinzhu/VisCello.celegans).
Expr11863 UBC-9 expression was detected in early embryos in utero. The fluorescence continued to be present in the pharynx and body-wall muscles during larval stages and became prominent in coelomocytes and the male tail in young adults. The fluorescence progressively intensified until death in hermaphrodites, although the expression pattern did not change.
    Expr1032789 Tiling arrays expression graphs
Expr13765   3XFLAG::UBC-9 localizes to the nuclear periphery throughout the germline in the wild type strain. The localization pattern of 3XFLAG::UBC-9 is enriched at the nuclear envelope, but anti-FLAG staining alone did not identify whether UBC-9 was inside or outside of the nuclear envelope. We co-stained with a SUN-1 antibody (that marks the inner nuclear membrane) and a FLAG antibody to identify whether UBC-9 localizes close to the nuclear membrane. The positions of UBC-9 and SUN-1 are not significantly different, confirming that UBC-9 is associated with the nuclear membrane. Our data suggest that UBC-9, may in fact be located on the inner membrane.
