Expression Pattern :

Pattern  ced-1 was expressed at high levels in cells that can function as engulfing cells. Hypodermal cells, and intestinal and pharyngeal muscle cells. The earliest GFP signal observed was in the four intestinal precursor cells in 50 to 100 cell stage embryos. In embryos at the 250-cell stage or older, CED-1::GFP was visible in hypodermal cells, intestinal cells, and the entire pharyngeal primordium. This expression pattern persisted until hatching. During larval development, intestinal cell expression diminished, but expression in hypodermal cells and in all pharyngeal cells remained strong. GFP signal was also observed in body wall and vulval muscles, and in many neurons in the head and ventral nerve cord In L4 larvae and adult hermaphrodites, the strongest CED-1::GFP signal was observed on the surfaces of the gonadal arms. Primary Identifier  Expr802
Subcellular Localization  The GFP signal was localized to cell surfaces in all cells in which expression was detected

any of 20 large epithelial cells which form a tube and are mostly situated as bilaterally symmetric pairs around the tubular lumen. Each of these cell pairs forms an intestinal ring ( II-IX int rings). The most anterior intestinal ring (int ring I), however, is made of four cells. Intestinal cells contain large nuclei with large nucleoli and numerous autofluorescent granules in their cytoplasm. intestinal cell   WBbt:0005792
